In the fight against ants that infested his garden, this American found an incredible way of decimating this undesirable population. However, the victims were not just any old ants, but the fearful fire ants.

In January this year, Australia faced a serious infestation of fire ants. Solenopsis invicta have a highly irritating venom and in large numbers, when there is an infestation, they can ravage cattle, crops and even house foundations.

Fire ants are also considered a harmful species in the United States, since their accidental introduction to the area via an infested cargo ship in the 1930s. American vlogger Mark experienced a complete infestation on his property, which is what led him to take the matter in hand, with a formidable home-made weapon.

Mark simply took an old flat screen projector television and removed the lens. This acted as a giant magnifying glass, which trapped and concentrated sunlight, turning it into an incredible weapon, a veritable death ray!

In the video that can be seen at the end of the article, you can watch the destruction in operation. In order to film the scene, Mark put green welder’s goggles on the camera in order to protect it from the extremely bright light created by the lens. You can watch him firing the death ray on the teeming anthills in a scene worthy of any science fiction movie. The results? No survivors.

In the United States, fire ants are a real problem, because they attack pollinating insects, as well as the fragile offspring of diverse animal species such as turtles, quails or deer (fawns). Fearless predators, fire ants are capable of attacking any living being that is small enough to be overcome and covered by thousands of individual attackers, each as determined as the next.

Here is the scene of the annihilation on Mark’s property:
